Comparisons of Satellite and Airborne Altimetry With Ground?Based Data From the Interior of the Antarctic Ice Sheet

A series of traverses has been conducted for validation the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Ice, Cloud, land Elevation Satellite 2 (ICESat-2) on flat interior Antarctic ice sheet. Global Navigation System data collected three separate 88S Traverses intersect 20% ICESat-2 reference ground tracks have precisions better than ±7 cm biases less ?4 cm. Data from these were used to assess heights ICESat-2, CryoSat-2, Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM). ±3.3 bias ±7.2 precision. ATM 9.3 ±9.6 CryoSat-2 ?38.9 ±47.3 These best case results are ice-sheet but provide a characterization quality satellite airborne altimetry.
